The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG), Aarhus University seeks an academic employee in the area of data science to work with various livestock based data. The position begins on 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for two years.

Purpose and description of the position

The "green transition" motivates sustainable food production. Among the number of sustainability factors, the amount and quality of collected livestock related data is one of the key factors to drive a sustainable agriculture. These days a large-scale measurement set-ups motivate dedicated computational infrastructure and sophisticated data processing methods. This means, a collected data stored and processed within a high performance computations cluster (HPC) with specific databases (DB) associated to purpose-drived data pipelines.

The aim of this position is to advance a large-scale data inferences at QGG with the advanced software development practice targeting a linux-based HPC environments with data-specific BD and pipelining techniques.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Administration of Linux HPC cluster and service of the related infrastructure.
  • Database and related data pipelines development and administration.
  • Contribute to development, test and maintanence of various QGG scientific software.
  • Technical contribution to QGG research projects.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a bachelor or master degree in computer science or other related fields with a strong programming background with several years of industry based experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Master or Bachelor degree in computer science/engineering.
  • Have the proven knowledge and experience of industry based software development, especially automated data processing pipelines and database development in Linux-based environments.
  • Have experience in bash scripting and overall applications development.
  • Knowledge and experience of C++ , Python, SQL, JavaScript are necessary.
  • Have effective communication skills in written and spoken English, for the presentation of their research to various audiences - from experts to the general public.

Personal qualifications/social skills (relevant to the position)

  • Have good interpersonal skills, ambitious, takes ownership and is scientifically self-motivated and creative.
  • Can work both independently and in groups.
  • Possess good communication skills, being friendly, helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.
